I think everybody offers both EXE -based and WEB-based softwares.

Examples: RKG (ODIN & Web), Zerodha (EXE & web) ,Sharekhan (TT & web).

Of course ,I never tried Sharekhan's.
Both are equally fast.

Small correction:

While Zerodha offers exe and web without any additional cost, with RKG its a bit different - you are either an ODIN client [paying 329/- per segment soft. charges] or web client [paying 99/- p.m charges]. And both ids are not activated simultaneously.

With Zerodha - you have all the platforms activated. Not with RKG. Your ODIN id and password will not work with rkgonline.

Traffic!!! hmmm...

That is what differentiates between an online and an offline business. The only people who have to be scaled up are the account opening team, everything else has hardly any scaling up issues.
The risk management is automated, same rules for all the clients so even 10000 clients added in a day won't make any difference.
We are trying to automate as many processes as possible and shouldn't cause any issues in scaling up.

The biggest strength for Zerodha is the team, young(oldest is 31 yrs old), energetic and highly ambitious... ;)...

Well your back office servers need to be scaled up as well(capacity wise)....imagine you have a million clients & all log in to the back office at the same time...will ur servers be able to handle it?
