While our athletes who did not win medals will be ignored, be bossed over by the athletic federation babus, and will go back to the daily grind for the next four years, till suddenly, during the Tokyo Oplympics 2020, if one of them will win a medal, they will be mobbed by millions, crores of rupees, land, brand sponsorship will be given (well deserved), and cycle will repeat....

Just the fact that our athletes thrive inspite of lack of facilities, infrastructure, support, official and political meddling seaks of their grit and determination... We only support heros (medal winners in Olympics - nobody knows if an athlete wins world championship) and cricketers... :(:(:(

Stray thought.. Weightlifting didn't see much progress despite Malleshwari winning the sole Indian medal. She is now a near forgotten name.
Ya, only cricketers are remembered in this country. :(
We, the public rarely took interest in other sports, so naturally hardly any other sport survives here. :annoyed:

I think we might need a generational shift to see progress in other sports.
I myself have not been able to explore other sports than cricket . Population at large is almost on the same page.

Marks for sports for school children + recognition + big monies to Olympic medal winners could possibly spur more parents + kids into other avenues of sport...

The IPL however overshadows all sports in monetary terms.
Cricket is very difficult to wean away from.

True... Look at our sports viewing habits. 99% of sports enthusiast watch cricket or football.... Does any TV channel promote athletics, swimming, badminton, gymnastics? (Absurdly these very channels wake up on Olympics day and create Twitter hashtag GetGoldYogeshwarDutt - He got eliminated in the first round) :(:(:( Even sports such as hockey gets very poor coverage. I read today that PM Modi has formed a committee to ensure India gets more medals at next Olympics... But unless we promote sports other than cricket and football, nothing much will happen....

We need to do more than lip service. Why not have national athletics, wrestling, archery etc competition, provide full TV coverage, and reward 1-2-3rd place winners with 25-10-5 lacs? (Why give crores only to cricketers?) We need to give other sports prominence and media exposure. Prize money and media fame in national press will encourage parents to send their children into sports. Who knows if we really try, we can get more hidden gems such as Dipa Karmakar? As a comparison, China has talent scouts for finding and training at children with promise at an early age of 5 and 6 years.

Mumbai Auto Driver Helped Him Get To Friday Prayer. His Story Goes Viral

मुंबई : ऑटो ड्राइवर शुक्ला जी जिन्होंने सवारी के लिए कुछ ऐसा किया कि FB पर वायरल हो गए

Not all superheroes wear capes. For Mumbai resident Rameez Shaikh, he came driving an auto and did something simple but extraordinary to win his heart.

"The auto guy (who was pasting a 'Ganpati Utsav' sticker on his windshield as I entered in his auto) told me: 'Aap bhagwan ke kaam ke liye jaa rahe ho, aap tension matt le... mai chhodd deta hu aap ko... lekin mai wait nahi kar paaugaa... mujhe aagey jaanaa hoga,'" Mr Shaikh says on Facebook.
