BTW, this is my opinion only, not a rule.

Expectancy

Calculating this for overall trades and for subsets ( Trend vs CT , BO vs BOF etc ) over a period seems to be quite helpful to highlight possible problems.

Yes , having positive expectancy is very important for any system to make money in the long term. I have heard people saying " any system if followed with discipline will make money." This is true provided the system has positive expectancy....else if the system has negative expectancy, trading such system with "discipline" will make us loose money " systematically ".For positive expectancy we need high success rate or high Reward to risk ratio.

In my view it is the most important principle in trading. Every trader must have some concepts of expectancy in his mind. He may not take pen and paper and calculate the expectancy of his system every time...but he must atleast know what parameters give positive expectancy to any system.

1.Expectancy, and Money management are the pillars of a trading system

2.Any system if followed with discipline will make money is not valid
