Traderji, give the starter of a thread in the Advanced section the power to delete irrelevant posts (subject to the approval of the mods if you so desire).

Also, anyone doing this persistently can be prohibited from making any further posts in that thread.

Is it? Just see the no. of posts Suduko has :)

We aren't loking for 'Advanced Threads' on shayaris & CNBC commentaries, are we? ;)
Exactly! One can attain elite status by just spamming threads if this is the case. redcafe.net has a newbie forum, where the newbies are promoted based on the quality of the posts, not on the basis of no of posts. It's worked out beautifully over the years for them.

Posting their system:

A lot of people have been asking a lot of questions about promotions and the like . This thread answers some FAQs and gives some guidelines for Promotion . This thread will give you a general idea about the promotion system . I have compiled this from the posts by mods/admins .

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Newbie System :

The newbie system is here for very good reason. It stops the invasion of turkish/italians/scousers etc every time we play in europe or have a bad match or whatever. We also have our fair share of numpty United fans. We do not want to be manutd.com full of kids and we certainly dont want to have a collection of retards like redissue. The newbie forum is actually quite a cool concept as it allows us new members to experiment, develop a style and get our game ready for the big time. I know theres no set time limit for graduating from the newbie forum but I'd just like to mention I'm waiting patiently.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

When will I be promoted ?

This is determined by the admins/mods and other regular users from the full forum who have access to the Newbie forums (call them 'scouts' if you want). Newbies are promoted based on post quality, so the more insightful, sensible and articulate posts you make, the more likely you are to be promoted.

There is no time limit or post count target for promotion, so spamming the board or squatting for a few weeks won't get you anywhere. It's very much quality over quantity here. So please just post sensibly, be patient, and let the mods and scouts do the rest.

Coming into this topic or creating other topics shouting about when you will be promoted will not help your cause

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Repuatation System (Rep points) :

When a poster has reached a number of posts, or through a couple posts they show promise and potential, mods/scouts will review them and put them forward for promotion to an Admin. A lot of posters don't actually go through the entire promotion system, if they are viewed as good posters here, they will be promoted before they reach 150.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Ways to get promoted :

(i)You need 150 rep points to get promoted. Everyone starts at 10. The second you get 150 points you get promoted. For every quality post you get 11 points .The way to earn these points is to post well.

(ii)Direct Promotion : If a mod notices and likes your posts then he can promote you right away , irrespective of points in total. For this your posts must be of a good quality

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Checking Reputation points

Under your name there should be a set of silver scales next to the green light that shows that you're online. Just click on the scales to check your reputation for that post and your overall reputation points .

<or>

Go to your User CP and scroll down to the bottom to find out which of your posts have got reps .

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Newbie Conversations :

There is a critical mass to the newbie forum where if there are too few people conversation does dry up making it more difficult for mods to spot good posters but it usually fills up and if things get too quiet then there's a few of the mods to try and prod the conversation along before the numbers build back up. Bring up threads that build conversation and the mods are sure to be happy.

The Mods/Admins are lurking around the forum and usually one of them is online at any given time. They are here to monitor the smooth running of the forum, close and move threads which get out of hand, promote newbies and occasionally ban people.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Criteria for promotion :

There is no strict criteria for promotion such as number of posts, the mods /scouts simply read the threads in the Newbie forum and attempt to pick out those who seem to offer a worthwhile contribution to the main forums. It doesn't matter whether you're a United fan or not as opposition support is welcomed if the poster offers sensible opinions and will enliven the debate, hell one of the best () Mods in here is a Leeds fan. So be calm and try to come up with quality stuff. You get 11 rep points for a good post, and you start with 10 automatically.

Promotion :

* 150 points are needed for promotion, and once you are, you will not receive any more.

* You will receive a PM when you are promoted if you have the facility enabled on the control panel.

* The newbie forum is kept hiden to the posters of the main to make it futile the invasion of idiots that game after game register to wind them up. Its difficult enough trying to read posts of genuine newbies without wading through lots of posts from 'regulars' who shouldn't be in the newbies. If you are a senior forum poster, do not re-register to be in the newbies as well. If caught all of your ID's will be banned.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

The System :

It's not a perfect system but the positives outweigh the negatives. Some of the mods are quite generous. Post a little and you'll be out of here in no time. It's not the best system, it certainly has it's flaws, but it's the best there is. The risk of losing good posters who simply get bored hanging about is far outweighed by the success we have in keeping the usual retards from invading the mains.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Can I be demoted again?

Most definately, yes you can. If you are disruptive or clearly an idiot you run the risk of being at the very least demoted but more likely to be banned outright. Mods and Admin do this on a voluntary basis and have very little time or patience for idiots. We also believe that if you are an idiot you should not be inflicted on the newbies either.

I understand the newbie forum can be frustrating at times but others are getting promoted every other day and I see no reason why it should be difficult for you if you continue to post well. Newbies often get promoted when they catch an admin's attention by replying to a topic in the main forum.

Here's a few more tips;

1) Don't ask for rep points. You won't get it by asking.

2) The amount of posts and threads doesn't make you a good poster. Displaying a sound knowledge of the game, having a sense of humour (making us laugh and more importantly, being able to laugh at yourself) would help towards your promotion.

3) Don't try to suck up to the mods/Admins. We've been here long enough to be able to spot a brown-nose a few forums away.

4) You don't have to subscribe to the popular view regarding anything, but putting your argument against it in an intelligent manner rather than the preferred mode of infantile abuse so popular nowadays will earn you rep points.

And lastly...

5) Being in the newbies for a bit is NOT necessarily a bad thing. A forum is more or less like a community, but with more retards of course. It has it's own culture and feel to it. The time spent here lets you have the chance to understand and acclimatise to it. This will help you avoid getting slaughtered when you reach the main forum.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
I hope we can implement the same for select members, instead of newbies.

I volunteer!

"Prem naam hai mera, Prem Chopra"
I guess that settles it. No more q from my side sir!

My 1st Reaction to Karthik's reaction was spontaneous. To me at one time traderji.com was contributing to my Learning Curve.I was 1st jolted from my Stcoh / MACD / RSI to 'Time Series Data' by this forum.A new vista was opened, the Perspective changed.
Random / Bias & to counter Mining / Neural / G.A. / System a COMPLETE Approach changed my mind-set it's stimullus was this Gr8 Forum.
Starting seeing Mkt as Price tells us.In many other Forum the Knowledge Bank is huge,i get buried by the enourmousity there,so many things to Learn !
I am sorry to say at traderji that is Hugely lacking. Now a days contribution from Traderji.com to my Learning Curve is abysmally negligable.Hence for my personal benefit i want this change.

Now coming to the 2nd Point.
..............................................
Who will decide what is Advanced for me .Maybe for me VSA is advanved .For Karthik VSA is not so Advanced may be Profile is advanced.
For Sanjay maybe both of these are not Advanced.Hence there needs to be few seperate Dedicated Threads, where those related Queries/understanding discussions can go on,like Saint does regarding HH HL.
I find Jesse a competent person amongst us to Guide for the same.

3rd Point.
.................................
Eligibility to participate, here let me cite an example, when Metro Rail 1st came to Kolkata,we where apprehensive the neat & clean ambience is just for few days, most of us will litter the walls with pan-chewing spits ,amazingly the same kolkattans when ply through Metro Rail suddenly become well behaved.Metro Rail is now many Yrs old in Kolkata.Like wise the Level of discussion & knowledge ,i am anticipating ,will not only bar many but many will be Awe struck, they will behave properly, still some Read only type restriction is neccessay to start with.

May be if Prem Chopra decides, then i can enrich myself to the next level.:)
We are very LUCKY to still have a developing Trading atmosphere in India, otherwise with this meagre knowledge i would have been vending in Shoping Malls.

Have you read this thread from start ? Do you think this is the place where you should introduce yourself ? Please ensure discipline by making posts in proper threads. You should post your introduction in Introductions thread and not here.

Just look at the 2 posts just below your this post.... there is tremendous wealth of information for newcomer even at current level... but still people post wherever they feel like... If people behave well the world will be ideal but for the rest, let discipline bring everyone back to their senses.

Apart from giving points to good posts, have negative marking in place as well and display points below number of posts so we can then judge about true value of someone by looking at the negative (or positive) divergence between number of posts and points earned :D.... and dont allow people with negative marks to start a new thread so this will nullify impact of total number of posts. To elaborate more, let 10 points be deducted when someone starts a new thread. He will then have to accumulate the points by making GOOD posts in others' threads (moderators / thread owner will decide on the quality of the post) in order to continue creating new threads. And you can start with ZERO points while starting so that the person will have no option but to search the forum for required information (if he truely wants that information) or post in relevant threads to seek the desired information. I think I am not properly organised while writing this but some brain-storming on this will bring the proper working model in place.

And how about making traderji a paid service ? Many new ideas suggested by experienced members to ensure discipline, which seem worthwhile but cannot be implemented in a 'free' forum, can otherwise be implemented by utilising these resources. People tend to jump onto FREE things but will think twice before spending money for the membership. FREEBIES is the mantra now-a-days and I get a feeling that we are disrespecting the experience and knowledge that you pros share here when someone does not reciprocate in the manner it deserves.

Coming back to my point (paid membership), we can then even have PAID moderators whose job throughout the day will be to ensure discipline throughout the forums. You guys are doing very well as moderators but there is a limit to what all you can do since this is not your first priority. I hope you are getting me.

Best regards,

Abhay
