A friend Trades Nifty on Positional basis ! His result from Jan 2012 till Today's mkt close is as follows :

Total : 146 trades (78 long and 68 Short trades.)

64 loosing trades with a total loss of 2500 points
82 winning trades with a total profit of 6700 points

Total 146 trades with a Net gain of 4200 points ! This has come in 21 months , i.e. an average of just 200 points a month !

My query to all who are regularly trading Nifty : Is this result : Good, okay , bad or not worth trying !!!???

On receiving your PM, I posted , the same message elsewhere. General consensus is that its a good result and we would like to know the strategy, if not detailed, just an outline. My personal query is : In what time frame is he trading Nifty Future... is it EOD chart or Intraday charts !!??

Congratulations to your friend for being able to follow this challenge. Numbers seem realistic... 44% Losing trades.

However, I assure you that even if he revealed his method it would be very tough (for any of us) to get even similar results. Such is the nature of trading. He must've had a decade of trading history before those 21 successful months.

One very good feature about his method is that, Drawdown is very low to Nil since RR is only 1:2

This is a very stable trading method with consistent results.

A trading method is not good or bad because of more or less money it gives. Any such shortcoming has an easy solution.

Therefore, next time you get a chance to speak with him, ask him for his trade records so that we can do further analysis. Find out what is the max DD, max number of losing trades in a string, is the higest gain much more than highest loss.... and few such parameters. And then we may even look for the degree of profitability.

He is not willing to share his Contracts, but gave me an Excel sheet, listing his Trade levels ! Where to mail you. I have already sent it to rkkarnani !

rk, gkpc.

Having seen the excel sheet, I feel that the trader is very experienced and a seasoned one. He is taking intraday entries, and holding till there is steam. As a result, he has captured all moves on the daily chart and has been successful in avoiding the whipsaws of intraday trading.

His system is completely discretionary. Probably the reason why he may not be able to share it, even if he wanted to.

I have tried to decode his SL system. However, it appears that he has used his experience in intraday trading to place SL at intraday levels and pattern failure points due to which some SLs are big, as much as 140 points, whereas some are as small at 18 points.

He is very conscious of Draw Downs. In the last 1.5 years of trading, there has been only one occasion where he has lost as much as his big gain over a series of continuous losing trades. He prefers to lose little in more number of trades than lose big in a single trade. Shows, that the trader is very disciplined and mature.

One final point. The trader is good at anticipating. After a decent move of 200 plus points in a direction, the trader starts seeking entry in the reverse direction. After a few Stop Hits, he successfully manages to get on to the new trend early. Take the recent example. The market has moved 600 points up. And now the trader tried to get onto a short entry on 16th sept in anticipation. Whereas, the daily trend is up.

Regards,

PS: The only name that comes to mind is ST da. Better own-up Sirji instead of making us do the hardwork of reverse-engineering :)

Amit, He is taking Intraday entries no doubt, but also taking home positions which is evident from the Excel sheet. How many lots is he trading is not known, but the results as projected therein are awesome if true ! Yes, he is a seasoned trader and as per gkpc, hv been trading the mkts since April 2002 !! Except for 2 quarters in the year 2007, he has shown HUGE profits in all quarters !
GKPC is not sharing his contact details otherwise would have liked to interact with him. More on learning than for asking for his strategy ! Anyways, it was nice going through the Excel sheet !

Hi gkpc, I am also a swing trader. If you dont mind, could you please send the excel sheet to me ? Definitely this guy is a successful experienced trader. May be by looking at his trades I could also learn a few things. If it is confidential and you dont want to send, then it is ok...i understand.
