Life and reflections.....

Henry David Thoreau had his 'Walden's Pond' a place for him to retreat away from the hustle and bustle of the daily grind and reflect upon life. I however, take a break and spend Sunday mornings in the garden near by. There is greenery that is soothing to the eyes, a quite and a restful environment to reflect and think in the quite silence while watching a child or two playing with his/her parents and grandparents and the occassional chirping of the birds that would break the monotony of the stillness around.....

Today, Happened to think back upon some of life's events..... which seemed random when they did happen. But were it really so? Some experiences have made me to think that life is not random after all. There is a pattern and meaning to everything we come across in life.... it is an interesting thought and philosophy. On one hand we can think that life is pre-ordained. That we are restricted by our karmas. And no matter how hard we try, the outcome is already decided. And if so, what is the use of trying if the result or end is fixed - even if we try? The opposite thought would be that Karma/fate can be changed or atleast influenced by selfless thoughts and actions.

I have tried to read The Gita on many occassions to understand and make sense from Krishna's discourse and advise to Arjun on the battlefield of Mahabharat. Ofcourse, it is a book and a guide that is deep rooted in philosophy and understanding of life, religion, duty, soul, responsibility and so on. Guess imbibing the message of The Gita will take a lifetime to master.

While on the subject, another book comes to mind that I read a long time back titled 'Many Lives, Many Masters' by Dr. Brian Weiss, M.D. This book was on the New York best seller list and is about the true life story of changing beliefs of a skeptical graduate from Columbia University and Yale Medical School (Dr. Brian Weiss), when he encounters a young woman with long term phobia, and in the course of treatment accidentaly stumbles across evidence of past-life that is convincingly evident to the scientifically minded Dr. Weiss. This experience challenges his beliefs and changes his life while it gets a closure and a cure for his patient. (It is a must read book for anyone. There is a link at the bottom of this post for the first introductory chapter)

Some quotes from Dr. Brian Weiss :

https://www.goodreads.com/author/quotes/72099.Brian_L_Weiss

Patience and timing . . . everything comes when it must come. A life cannot be rushed, cannot be worked on a schedule as so many people want it to be. We must accept what comes to us at a given time, and not ask for more. But life is endless, so we never really die; we just pass through different phases. There is no end. Humans experiences has many dimensions. But time is not as we see time, but rather in lessons that are learned.”

The number of days and years one lives on Earth is insignificant. It’s the quality of those days and years that’s important, quality measured in loving acts and achieved wisdom. ‘Some people do more good in one day than others do in a hundred years.’ This is their message. ‘Every soul, every person is precious. Every person helped, every life aided or saved, is immeasurably valuable.

The important question regarding spirituality is not which God you follow but are you true to your soul? Are you living a spiritual life? Are you a kind person here on earth, getting joy from your existence, causing no harm, and doing good to others?

Happiness comes from within. It is not dependent on external things or on other people. You become vulnerable and can be easily hurt when your feelings of security and happiness depend on the behavior and actions of other people. Never give your power to anyone else.

One of the most important of life´s lessons is to learn independence, to understand freedom. This means independence from attachments, from results, from opinions, and from expectations. Breaking attachments leads to freedom, but breaking attachments does not mean abandoning a loving and meaningful relationship, a relationship that nourishes your soul. It means ending dependency on any person or thing. Love is never a dependency.

If you rely exclusively on the advice of others, you may make terrible mistakes. Your heart knows what you need. Other people have other agendas.

Inner peace is impossible without patience. Wisdom requires patience. Spiritual growth implies the mastery of patience. Patience allows the unfolding of destiny to proceed at its won unhurried pace.

More learning can occur when there are many obstacles then when thear are few or none. A life with difficult relationships, filled with obstacles and losses, presents the most opportunity for the soul's growth.

Happiness is really rooted in simplicity. The tendency to excessiveness in thought and action diminishes happiness.

Everything will be clear to you in time. But you must have a chance to digest the knowledge that we have given to you already.

As Christian mystic Pierre Teilhard de Chardin once said: “We are not human beings having a spiritual experience; we are spiritual beings having a human experience.” He was right. If we recognize the soul lesson, we can grow beyond suffering, and there is no stress in this state of understanding.

Our thoughts and actions have consequences, all the more reason to be loving and compassionate and not fearful or harmful. They create our destiny and our future.

The earth is like a one-room schoolhouse in which students of different grade levels are assembled together.

MudraaTrader,

* As said before - What you think of me or my post is not my problem.

* In a world filled with hate, I am trying to be a person who holds no hate towards someone because of their religion, country or beliefs.

* Re. my lower levels will not waste my time thinking over it. But if you want to,:lol::lol: that is fine....

* According to you, I am a fool, now you call me a hypocrite. I thank you for that. First because even though you resort to being rude and insulting, you allow me an opportunity to not come down (up according to you) to your enlightened level.:rofl::rofl:

* You are free to waste your time to search my post and quote what you want. I will reply to your post when and as I see fit. Won't bother otherwise.

* Guess you are intelligent enough :lol::lol: to know how to post pics. Let me know if you want help on that score.

The world ahead.... email fw.

In 1998, Kodak had 170,000 employees and sold 85% of all photo paper worldwide. Within just a few years, their business model disappeared and they got bankrupt. What happened to Kodak will happen in a lot of industries in the next 10 year - and most people don't see it coming. Did you think in 1998 that 3 years later you would never take pictures on paper film again?

Yet digital cameras were invented in 1975. The first ones only had 10,000 pixels, but followed Moore's law. So as with all exponential technologies, it was a disappointment for a long time, before it became way superiour and got mainstream in only a few short years. It will now happen with Artificial Intelligence, health, autonomous and electric cars, education, 3D printing, agriculture and jobs. Welcome to the 4th Industrial Revolution.

Welcome to the Exponential Age.

Software will disrupt most traditional industries in the next 5-10 years. Uber is just a software tool, they don't own any cars, and are now the biggest taxi company in the world. Airbnb is now the biggest hotel company in the world, although they don't own any properties.

Artificial Intelligence: Computers become exponentially better in understanding the world. This year, a computer beat the best Go player in the world, 10 years earlier than expected. In the US, young lawyers already don't get jobs. Because of IBM Watson, you can get legal advice (so far for more or less basic stuff) within seconds, with 90% accuracy compared with 70% accuracy when done by humans. So if you study law, stop immediately. There will be 90% less laywyers in the future, only specialists will remain.

Watson already helps nurses diagnosing cancer, 4 time more accurate than human nurses. Facebook now has a pattern recognition software that can recognize faces better than humans. In 2030, computers will become more intelligent than humans.

Autonomous cars: In 2018 the first self driving cars will appear for the public. Around 2020, the complete industry will start to be disrupted. You don't want to own a car anymore. You will call a car with your phone, it will show up at your location and drive you to your destination. You will not need to park it, you only pay for the driven distance and can be productive while driving. Our kids will never get a driver's licence and will never own a car. It will change the cities, because we will need 90-95% less cars for that. We can transform former parking space into parks. 1,2 million people die each year in car accidents worldwide. We now have one accident every 100,000km, with autonomous driving that will drop to one accident in 10 million km. That will save a million lifes each year.

Most car companies might become bankrupt. Traditional car companies try the evolutionary approach and just build a better car, while tech companies (Tesla, Apple, Google) will do the revolutionary approach and build a computer on wheels. I spoke to a lot of engineers from Volkswagen and Audi; they are completely terrified of Tesla.

Insurance companies will have massive trouble because without accidents, the insurance will become 100x cheaper. Their car insurance business model will disappear.

Real estate will change. Because if you can work while you commute, people will move further away to live in a more beautiful neighborhood. Electric cars will become mainstream until 2020. Cities will be less noisy because all cars will run on electric. Electricity will become incredibly cheap and clean: Solar production has been on an exponential curve for 30 years, but you can only now see the impact. Last year, more solar energy was installed worldwide than fossil. The price for solar will drop so much that all coal companies will be out of business by 2025.

With cheap electricity comes cheap and abundant water. Desalination now only needs 2kWh per cubic meter. We don't have scarce water in most places, we only have scarce drinking water. Imagine what will be possible if anyone can have as much clean water as he wants, for nearly no cost.

Health: The Tricorder X price will be announced this year. There will be companies who will build a medical device (called the "Tricorder" from Star Trek) that works with you phone, which takes your retina scan, you blood sample and you breath into it. It then analyses 54 biomarkers that will identify nearly any disease. It will be cheap, so in a few years everyone on this planet will have access to world class medicine, nearly for free.

3D printing: The price of the cheapest 3D printer came down from 18,000$ to 400$ within 10 years. In the same time, it became 100 times faster. All major shoe companies started 3D printing shoes. Spare airplane parts are already 3D printed in remote airports. The space station now has a printer that eliminates the need for the large amout of spare parts they used to have in the past.
At the end of this year, new smartphones will have 3D scanning possibilities. You can then 3D scan your feet and print your perfect shoe at home. In China, they already 3D printed a complete 6-storey office building. By 2027, 10% of everything that's being produced will be 3D printed.

Business opportunities: If you think of a niche you want to go in, ask yourself: "in the future, do you think we will have that?" and if the answer is yes, how can you make that happen sooner? If it doesn't work with your phone, forget the idea. And any idea designed for success in the 20th century is doomed in to failure in the 21st century.

Work: 70-80% of jobs will disappear in the next 20 years. There will be a lot of new jobs, but it is not clear if there will be enough new jobs in such a small time.

Agriculture: There will be a 100$ agricultural robot in the future. Farmers in 3rd world countried can then become managers of their field instead of working all days on their fields. Aeroponics will need much less water. The first petri dish produced veal is now available and will be cheaper than cow produced veal in 2018. Right now, 30% of all agricultural surfaces is used for cows. Imagine if we don't need that space anymore. There are several startups who will bring insect protein to the market shortly. It contains more protein than meat. It will be labeled as "alternative protein source" (because most people still reject the idea of eating insects).

There is an app called "moodies" which can already tell in which mood you are. Until 2020 there will be apps that can tell by your facial expressions if you are lying. Imagine a political debate where it's being displayed when they are telling the truth and when not.

Bitcoin will become mainstream this year and might even become the default reserve currency.

Longevity: Right now, the average life span increases by 3 months per year. Four years ago, the life span used to be 79 years, now it's 80 years. The increase itself is increasing and by 2036, there will be more that one year increase per year. So we all might live for a long long time, probably way more than 100.

Education: The cheapest smartphones are already at 10$ in Africa and Asia. Until 2020, 70% of all humans will own a smartphone. That means, everyone has the same access to world class education. Every child can use Khan academy for everything a child learns at school in First World countries. We have already released our software in Indonesia and will release it in Arabic, Suaheli and Chinese this Summer, because I see an enormous potential. We will give the English app for free, so that children in Africa can become fluent in English

10 Life Lessons From a Navy SEAL

(Was reading up for some weekend inspiration. And summarised a few point from the inspiring link below (edited excerpts))

https://www.farnamstreetblog.com/2014/05/10-life-lessons-william-mcraven/

* To do something or achieve a goal, try to get as many variables on your side as possible.

* Nothing matters as much as your will to succeed.

* Sometimes, no matter what you do, things will not always go your way. Learn to accept that.

* Life will challenge you. You will fail many times, and it will be painful… and discouraging. These challenges will test you to your very core. But if you want to end up as a winner, do not be afraid of failure.

* Some trails of life will be painful. But you must face them and not back down or let it get you.

* To win at life, you must be able to face your darkest moments. This is the time when you must be calm, composed and use all your skills, power and inner strength to overcome the challenges.

* Be positive and hopeful, even when there are problems around.

* Start each day with a task completed.

* Find someone to help, support or motivate you through life.

* Respect everyone. Even people you disagree.

* Know that life is not fair and that you will fail often, but if you take some risks, step up when the times are toughest, face down the obstacles, live for a purpose and never, ever give up - you will live in a world far better than the one you have today.

Excerpts from some great articles :

Source : Misc collection from : http://www.success.com/

Focus :

Write out a clear and authentic vision for your life and refer to it often. This first crucial exercise enables willing changes in behavior. The second step involves identifying and concentrating on what really matters as you work to fulfill your vision and filter out the distractions that hinder its progress. That’s focus..

Focus is not something that comes naturally for most people; it is a skill that requires mental discipline. It must be learned, refined and practiced. Focus takes intentionality.

Success truly hinges on the ability to cut through the clutter and emphasize the high-leverage activities that are the backbone of reaching your vision and eliminating distractions. If you can do that, you will be able to act and accomplish your vision results faster.

Clarity :

What is it you really want of life? What do you want professionally?Personally? For your family? What’s your vision for your life? Knowing this is clarity. Clarity means having an unfettered view of your vision, which is what you want and why you want it, fed by an understanding of its purpose and value.

Positive Attitude :

Positive thinking is about more than helping you through the tough times. Research shows that positive self-talk, rather than negative self-talk, can actively reduce your stress levels, giving you greater physical and mental health and a greater capacity to perform to your maximum potential. Your thoughts and your self-talk can be controlled with practice, meaning a positive attitude is something you can, and should, create for yourself.

Tactical Plans :

Goals are good for helping you to hone your desires and set the tone for your career, but without a solid plan of execution, those desires are only pipe dreams. As an extension of your goals, you must learn to create tactical plans that detail how you’re going to achieve those goals. That might include a list of tasks you must accomplish before reaching the goal, a series of strategies you’re going to use while pursuing that goal, or a list of prerequisites you’ll need to have before moving on to the next phase of your plan.

A Healthy Environment :

As humans, we are often products of our environments, and in the professional world, this is no different. If your desk is messy, your mind may be more frantic and cluttered. If you work in a noisy area full of distractions, you’ll never be able to focus. But perhaps more importantly, if you’re surrounded with negative, apathetic or downright lazy people, you’ll never be able to motivate yourself to achieve your goals. If you’re working in a place that doesn’t acknowledge hard work, you’ll never be able to progress.

Create your own environment to maximize your chances for success, whether that means working within the confines of your present circumstances or moving on to a better opportunity. Surround yourself with the types of people who will lead you to success, and structure your work environment so you can be your most productive. Once you start creating these things for yourself consistently and with dedication, you will find yourself naturally gravitating toward a path of success. With a strong vision in your mind and the right attitude and environment to carry you through the obstacles that lie ahead, there should be nothing stopping you from achieving your goals.

Mindfulness :

The shift to mindfulness removes one of the greatest obstacles to an optimally functioning mind: living as though we are our thinking. When we live within our thinking, we are victims of all the thoughts that arise in our minds. If our thinking is positive, things are probably going well. If our thinking is negative, our lives will follow suit.

In any moment when we are being mindful, our mind functions optimally because we can see our thinking objectively. The reactive thoughts that arise in any given moment no longer control us. We have the ability to respond according to our values instead of reacting based on emotionally driven thoughts.

Although mindfulness training may be the most important habit we can develop for professional success, it goes beyond increased discipline at work. Mindfulness training was originally offered with the intention of helping us to be happier, more compassionate human beings, and a growing body of scientific evidence suggests that the practice can do just that.

Others :

Make your work more powerful than your worry. Your thoughts have magnetic power. Take charge of your mind and your thinking. You will attract the experiences that you want in your life through effort, commitment and grace.

By asking ourselves the right questions, we elicit responses in the deeper parts of our mind that make a HUGE difference in what we manifest in our day-to-day lives.

Don’t start something without knowing and preparing for the absolute worst outcome that could happen, even if you expect the best. This way, you will not let MINOR obstacles get in your way, but you will be better prepared for it.

Spend 80% of your time focusing on the opportunities of tomorrow rather than the problems of yesterday - Brian Tracy

Some Misc. articles. (Source : Mail fw) :

Something to reflect on :

Are we earning to pay builders and interior designers, caterers and decorators? Whom do we want to impress with our highly inflated house properties & fat weddings? Do you remember for more than two days what you ate at someone's marriage? Why are we working like dogs in our prime years of life? How many generations do we want to feed? Most of us have two kids. Many have a single kid. How much is the "need" and how much do we actually "want"?? Think about it.

Would our next generation be incapable to earn, that we save so much for them!? Can not we spare one and a half days a week for family, friends and self?? Do you spend even 5% of your monthly income for your self enjoyment? Usually...No. Why can't we enjoy simultaneously while we earn? Spare time to enjoy before you have slipped discs and cholesterol blocks in your heart!!!

We don't own properties, we just have temporary name on documents. GOD laughs sarcastically, when someone says, "I am the owner of this land"!! Do not judge a person only by the length of his car.

Many of our science and maths teachers were great personalities riding on scooters!! It is not bad to be rich, but it is very unfair, to be only rich. Let's get a LIFE, before life gets us, instead....

One day, all of us will get separated from each other; we will miss our conversations of everything & nothing; the dreams that we had. Days will pass by, months, years, until this contact becomes rare... So be ambitious, work hard, but do not forget to enjoy with your family and friends.

Secrets to a happy marriage :

On a busy Monday morning this guy's rushing off to work. In the elevator he realizes his bag isn't as heavy as it usually is. Checks to find out that his lunch box isn't there. While walking up to his parked car, he replays the morning rush hours and realizes that his wife had simply forgotten to prepare his lunch that day. In their 18-years of blissful married life, he couldn't recall a single day in the past when she had not attended to the tiniest of his needs. He cuts off dialing her number and chuckles to himself as he drives out of the apartment block. At lunchtime that day his wife receives a call. It's her husband.

W: "Hi darling! hows work"

H: "Work's cool but I'm hungry smile emoticon"

W: "Didn't you eat lunch yet?"

H: "Nope"

W: "Why"

H: ''Cause it wasn't there."

Silence……

W: "OMG! how could I forget? I didn't even make it! that's never happened! I totally forgot! What are you going to do?"

H: "Not me! you're going to do something! You're going to change and come down! I'm waiting downstairs for you! We're going to lunch together!"

Wife squeals in delight (the sound of which is music to his ears) and joins him down. They drive off to a wonderful, memorable lunch.

Now you too know the secret behind their happy marriage!

The husband could have been in a foul mood, got upset and shouted at his wife. But the husband and wife at the time of marriage had promised each other to turn an oversight, a mistake, from either one into a moment of celebration, a moment of joy, a moment to cherish.

Whatever your partner does for you is not his or her duty, it's his or her love for you.

Accept it with grace and return it with interest smile emoticon

If ever the partner forgets, you do the needful. That is how love and relationship grows…. Have a blessed day! :)

On God

“It is never true to say that we have no time to meditate; the less one thinks of God, the less time there will always be for God. The time we have for anything depends of how much we value it. Thinking determines the uses of time; time does not rule over thinking. The problem of spirituality is never, then, a question of time; it is a problem of thought. For it does not require much time to make us saints; it requires only much love.” - Fulton Sheen

RULE 72:Simple, handy and useful :

In personal finance, if you divide the number 72 by the rate of interest, you get to know the number of years it will take for you to double the money..
Ex: if the rate of interest is 9%, simply divide the number 72 by 9% and the answer is 8. Thus 8 years will take to double your money if you invest at 8% of rate of interest.

INTEREST : we can use this rule in reverse to know the rate of interest needed to double your money to achieve your set goal. Eg: you have 2.5 lakh today and you need 5lakh in 5 years. Just divide the number 72 by 5, the answer is 14.41%. Thus you need a type of avenue, where you earn at least 14.41% as rate of interest, to double your amount in 5 years.

INFLATION : This 'Rule 72' helps you to understand about inflation also. It helps you to calculate the amount of time it will take for inflation to make the real value of money half. Let's say present inflation is 5.5%. When you divide 72 by 5.5% the answer is 13.09 years. That is to say, if you have 1 lakh in your kitty today, it would take around 13.09 years for the value of the money to be halved.
