"There are few things stronger than the bond between a mother and her baby (even if that baby is not her natural offspring). The instinct to protect our young extends to all walks of life. We do our best to keep them out of harms way, and whenever our children need help, we will do whatever it takes to rescue them!
Elephants are no exception. No matter if they’re babies or adults, they are majestic creatures whose intelligence has been compared to that of primates. It is believed that they experience a range of emotions such as grief, joy, love, and empathy. It’s that love and empathy that we see them exhibit in the video below.
When this mother elephant finds that her baby has gotten himself trapped in a mud pit, she does everything in her power to save him. He tries repeatedly to climb out, but he just can’t find his footing on the slippery sides of the hill. You can hear the terror in his cries as he calls out, desperate for help. At one point, the whole herd tries to aid in his rescue, but ultimately it’s Mom who saves the day!"
