I have come across the contrarian indicator called Smart Money Ratio. I am adding this SMR to Nifty Spot Table for referance.

SMR = India VIX / PCR

here,

SMR = Smart Money Ratio
India Vix = Volatility Index based on nifty option contracts
PCR = Near month Put Call Ratio

20 - Indicates overbought market
60 - Indicates oversold Markets

Hello Pralhad,
1. My regards and sincere appreciation to you for yet another new in the form of SMR. It appears to be a good indicator of market pulse. What I understand after going through the links provided by you & other sources is that SMR as an indicator is developed by ET group (and one Mr Shankar Patras article on every Monday in ET talks about SMR). It does seem to have something in it. It needs to be observed for sometime to find that out.

2. As for SMI, it could make an interesting study but dont know who is tracking the small option buyers in India. So it seems difficult at this time to track SMI, unless someone can guide us on this.

3. Here are couple of links you may like to check (if you have not already checked)-

This too is important

4. Also in the same context just check out the possibility of adding Smart Money Flow index in your table (in your free time of course). Although getting data may be a problem. You may also like to check if SMFI and Money Flow Index are the same thing. Check out this link

Best regards and keep up the good work. :)

hi,

New here..but had read AW10 excellent threads..and
now this thread ..

TTW ..i think this Smart money indicator may
be useful in uncertain or very local or specific
indicators ..like u said feel the market pulse..
As ET showed in Satyam swings and Nifty moves
this indicator was accurate to the emotional moves
of small investor/trader. I would term such incidents or
Uncertainity as one..as in case of Satyam."half truths
became exposed as lies"..the Market took a beating.

But not for prediction of Market tops/bottoms u can
use others. ;)
