Zerodha - Number One Discount Broker in India

Hi guys, I started trading stock-futures from this month instead of stocks, & I wanted to know about the rollover of the future in the case of swing/positional trading. I have read this article - http://zerodha.com/z-connect/tradezerodha/zerodha-trader-software-version/zt-spread-orders & it seems like I could rollover with the "2L" order type but would I have to have the margin to cover both positions or will the margin to cover the bigger position be sufficient? And, how do I rollover with minimal damage? If I did it with market-order then I guess I'd lose the spread on both orders so should I just put in a limit-order with a reasonable difference in both limit-prices & wait for them to get filled? What is the optimal time to rollover without compromising the price too much? Is it better to rollover 1 day before the expiry or on the day of the expiry?

Zerodha as well as other knowledgeable people please share your inputs & insights. :)

I think it is best not to complicate the act of roll over. Best to keep it simple, exit one and take position in the next month immediately.

To ensure that in between the time when you squared off one to entering another market doesn't move much, do it mid-day around noon. This is when the volatility is the least.

Why was leverage removed, that is explained here: http://tradingqna.com/40932/intraday-margin-leverage-trading-reduced-friday-after-brexit

Friday morning for a few minutes was madness, we were at 3x of our normal utilization. Order confirmations and fetching positions/holdings was taking much longer than usual, sometimes timing out. There is enough infra, but we found some glitches in the way it is configured for this much scale. What made it worse was that the exchange response time was also slow, as the turnover on the exchange servers were also ridiculously high. We made the necessary changes over the weekend.
Glitches are always there with Zerodha, Why, why, why?

When can we expect a glitch free Zerodha ?

Note of appreciation on kite

I'm a customer of Zerodha since Nov'11. I've been using NOW platform and still on it, because i just need a stable platform which is available 100% of the time. I don't need charts or advanced order types launched in Pi. So i never tried kite or pi.

Recently i opened a new account for my family member and so i tried kite.

Kite is extremely user friendly. One can see that a lot of thought has been put by Team Zerodha in designing the UI. My heartiest congratulations to the team.

I can't comment on the stability or availability of the kite and pi platform as i'm still a day old here. Bells and whistles can excite and win customers, but please make sure that the platform is available 100% of the time to take orders and sends it to the Exchanges for execution.

"There is enough infra"

Can you elaborate how many times the normal utilization your infra can take currently?

"We made the necessary changes over the weekend."

After the fix , next time how many times the normal load it can take.?

Do you do load testing /stress testing of your system or is that not possible?

Are u planning to add more servers during special event in the future to mitigate the issue ?

"Error fetching data.please retry" in kite

order modification error. Order cancellation error.

Extremely annoying.

someone has to take these errors seriously and FIX it once an for all !
That's right. I'd just spotted a great opportunity, decided to jump in & Kite stopped working, & by the time I logged into Z5, the price had moved. :( Look, I'm all for Zerodha, I think they are sincere in their efforts & they mean well but these things happen too often, & like many before me have said, a stable platform is THE MOST IMPORTANT thing for any good trader, without that, all the bells & whistles are irrelevant.

And, this is more relevant to me because I'm on Linux, I can only trade on Kite or Z5, & I prefer Kite for obvious reasons, so when something like this happens, it just completely throws me off. :(

EDIT : And now, I'd have to deal with the "Session Expired" thing over & over on Z5. :(
