" As of Fri 21 Nov, 2014, the 1 lakh cash prize is being discontinued. We have been forced to do this in light of the large amounts of fraudulent and malicious activity we're seeing, aimed at the cash reward. Our sincere apologies to the current players, and our congratulations to the many winners over the last few months. We hope to bring back the cash prize in the near future. "

So, fraudulent competition started for looting free prize money from Zerodha.

I have an Idea. :console:

Make crowd.in prediction possible only through back office q.zerodha.com only after client login. Better if it is from Pi (later).

In this way you will get genuine peoples. :)

Best Wishes.

Another ADD ON suggestion for crowd.in/ for Zerodha,

If you find 52 Lakh per year [52 week] is too much to give it; make it 1/3 rd (or even less) but remove minimum point condition (like 50000 point).
Make prize money small like 20,000, 10,000, 5,000 for top 3 highest scorer per week respectively. But give it every week to attract more people to Crowd.in. :)
With min 50,000 point like condition you'll get winner only in range bound market or when some one got lucky(like lottery).

Best Wishes & Happy Trading.

@Zerodha,

if you wanted to expand and get more customers , you could have used the money poured in crowd.in and funneled it into making a better trading terminal and charting app.

This would have added value to your existing customers and you would have gotten more paying customers.

crowd.in was a very bad marketing gimmick.

Take this opportunity to learn a very basic economic lesson.

CUSTOMERS WILL GO TO A SERVICE OR PRODUCT THAT IS BETTER THAN THE COMPETITION.

If some other broker wants customers , he simply needs to provide a better service or product and you will surely lose your customers.

If you keep doing things like crowd.in , you will not be in this business for long. So get rid of your marketing guys and pay well to your devs/tech teams who actually do the real work to provide value to customers.

The customers will do the marketing for you.

I say this because , you are the only broker who has shown an initiative to do things differently and that is exactly the reason of your success.

Do the basics right and do it well.

Good thing this crowd.in died.

another suggestion.
induct a few traders in the dev. team of PI. Only who actually trade, do know the requirement of traders. software developers alone will not suffice.
what software professionals do is like paper trading. real traders is like live trading.
if u rely only on the feedback from traders from traderji and other forums, u will not be able to release the final version even by 2017.

:) we didn't want this to be limited to Zerodha clients. But yeah, we hadn't expected people would go to this extent. We realized that a few of them were going to the extent of getting 50 to 100 SIM cards, and then using proxy IP's to vote from.

But like Nithin keeps saying, if you don't bet you can't win. But all bets can't be a hit for sure.

@Throwaway, the whole crowd.in initiative was outsourced to a web development company. There was no bandwidth from our tech team that was utilized for this. It was actually quite a small project, all put up in a weeks time.

Why did we do it?
It was definitely not for marketing, though it might seem so. It was actually a result of a discussion between two people on the team, whether people are smarter when their own money is not at stake. It was this discussion about how most retail seem to talk smart, but do something mindless as soon as their money is put on that talk. And yes, we also thought that it was probably a good game to run, and thought people not trading the markets will take the effort to know what Nifty is.

Did we get an answer?
Yes we did people are smarter when they just talk but lose their mind when there is fear of losing money. All the data we have collected is going into a thesis, and we should be able to share with all of you.

But yeah, this one definitely didn't play out the way we had thought. But that won't stop us from trying to do new things. :)

Hey aps, we have a bunch of traders in our office, I'd say quite decent ones. But the reason for putting the beta/alpha was to know if items on our list of things to do, matched with most of you wanted.

But looking at all the feature requests, my guess is that it will be an ongoing exercise, but we will have a final release with all the things that we think should work definitely by new years.

I second the idea of JAI.

Let only ZERODHA customers be the participants.
Hike the price money.(AIM:More outsiders will join ZERODHA.)
Introduce more prizes in the week ,from mere ONE.
For point calculation ,consider those with ±20 points.
In this way many people show interest in the competition.
100% accuracy...100% marks,95% accuracy ....95% marks,so on ..............
Outside this ±20 range ,NO marks at all.
More than ONE winners ,the prize will be split.
