Hi Sachin,

Today, I bought Gold ETF one unit using Zerodha trading account and to my surprise I was charged both stamp duty and STT on them.

As far as I understand ETFs are not subject to STT and also not the Stamp Duty as they are not based on pure Equity.

Could you please verify this?

Regards
Arsh

@zerodhaonline,

Boss, as far as your payout is concerned you people manually process the request and accordingly your banker credits the amount in customers amount or it is directly processed by bank ?
Payout requests are processed through our backoffice software and instructions sent to the bank, this is done automatically not manually...

stamp duty Rs. 50/-, irrespective of trade is unfair for those who trades only 1 trade.
Brokerage 40 + Stamp Duty 50 = 90 rs
it is not Rs 50 per trade, it is 0.01% with a maximum of Rs 50... Exchanges have already approved that they will collect stamp duty at their end, this budget is when the announcement is expected... Once done, stamp duty for stock market transactions will be uniform all across the country... Cheers...

Just a query..... did you have to square off a lot of positions due to margin calls? and how many thanks have come through for forcing these square off deals?

I think it should be made known about the plus side of closing positions by the broker forcibly.
