Intraday futures: 50% of Span margin: around 9800 for Nifty futures
Overnight futures: SPAN+ Exposure: Aroudn 27000 for nifty futures

Same rule for stock futures also...

Margin against securities will be given but only for intraday f&o trades....

Cheers...

There is a formulae but is pretty complicated.. but a general idea is for nifty(mininifty) , 7% is span margin and 3% is exposure margin... The span margin may increase when market suddenly becomes volatile...

for mininifty: SPAN: 7720, exposure: 3261: TOTAl: 10981 ..

If you want to hold overnight: 10981 , if you want to do intraday: 3900 ....

What does M2M margin exceeded mean?

Let's say I had 100 rupees as cash available and I can see 70 rupees as Margin utilized. When I try to place another options buy of 20 rupees i see M2M margin exceeded error.

Can you please explain with example?

This might be very naive question but I want to clear my confusion.

Hi zerodhaonline

I usually trade in F&O, but today when I wanted to sell Kotak Bank, the order got rejected and the error message was RMS-EQ blocked ALL!!

What does this mean? Am I blocked for EQ trading?

If you have margin available , it should let you trade... if you have used 100 Rs for options, the remaining 30rs will definitely be available for trading....

Leave us your number on [email protected], someone will call you up for more...

Phew!!!! what a trading day......

When you are placing orders, you need to take care of the order type:

1. Placing f&o orders under the order type NRML

2. Placing equity intraday orders under MIS

3. Placing equity delivery trades under CNC ...

You would have gotten that error for putting a wrong order type ...

what does SL-L and SL-M means?

similarly whats Difference bet day and IOC?

What is MIS and NRML?

regarding covered calls
do you allow shares in demat account as margin without having any cash in account....ofcourse any mtm losses are covered in cash........this is for holding positions overnight...
say i hold icicibank and sell out of money calls........and hold these positions overnight do you allow this without cash in trading account.

SL-L is stop loss limit
SL-M is stop loss market

In SL-L , stop loss limit, you will have a limit price after your order gets triggered
IN SL-M, stop loss market, your stop loss will be a market order as soon as it gets triggered

Day order, order which is valid for entire day
IOC(immediate or cancel)... If the order is not executed immediately, it gets cancelled

MIS: margin intraday square off , use this for trading intraday in equity with margin..

CNC: cash n carry for all delivery positions in equity...

NRML: Normal for all f&o trades...

Cheers...

Yes your stock can be used as initial margin, but you need to have funds to makeup for any mtm losses in the short call position.... CHeers..
