India is still an outsource destination for lower end, not the core. It is akin to saying that 95 or 98 % of the iconic Iphone is made in china. true but that that is all the low end. china can imitate but cannot produce the quality and feel of iphone. same is the case with Indian software.
Comparing IPhone to a Trading Terminal is akin to comparing a remote controlled plane to a luxury jet. You wouldn't know until you have worked with a product development company like Oracle, Cisco, IBM, Microsoft etc. Infosys/TCS have trading products that are used by the likes of JPM and MS. Now you can snipe back by saying the desi developed product led to the massive loss at JPM, but that would be shooting off on a different tangent altogether.
I don't know the exact source of development of Trade Tiger, PIB or IIFL Terminal but they are excellent platforms, albeit a little heavy on the resources. IIFL's terminal is pretty awesome if you have used it.
The only "lightweight" platform available at the moment is FT's Diet ODIN but getting it to work can be a real b***ch. It is rather unfair on your part to stereotype the Indian IT industry as a bunch of low paid coolies with little skill or imagination.
I wonder if you have been to China. I've seen Chinese folks use locally made touch/smartphones priced at about 7k way back in 2007 when Nokia N95 was being peddled at a whopping 27k and trust me, the Chinese smartphone could give my N95 a run for its money.
The Chinese have been making products and sending them to Taiwan, HongKong only to get them branded as Made in Taiwan/HongKong for decades.
We know the West has been the cradle of innovation for a while, but that is largely because they weren't under subjugation of oppressive rulers for over 10 centuries.
