Dear Vertigo,

The question is not of blaming anybody - but seeing things as they are. So why do people like Narayan Murthy, Kaliash Sathyarthi, Raghuram Rajan and even the President Pranab Mukherjee speak of the growing culture of intolerance in the country? Are they asking these questions to the state or the centre? And why?

Agree incidents happened in the states as you say. But the PM is the leader of the country, not just the BJP. His silence on the issue, sounds eerie. And why can an articulate PM not speak out against the fringe when they stoke communal card? Is loyalty to RSS/BJP of more importance? A word from the PM, is the need of the hour. He needs to come out openly and bring to book the divisive forces. But Modi is busy in Bihar calling opposition '3 idiots' and such. Everyday we hear BJP ministers deride Nehru. (Check Naqui and Rijiju's spiel today) Nehru is dead and gone. Attacking him is not going to bring development. Rather, BJP is focussing on non-essentials, and taking away time, energy, attention and goodwill generated....

Looking back, Manmohan Singh comes out a low profile but a classy guy..... Chaiwala story is done and over. Let not slogans and divisive agenda take place of real work. BJP has an opportunity, but it seems they are still the party to reckon only because the congress is bankrupt. But even with a weak opposition, looks like BJP may be out Hit Wicket, and not due to skills of the opponents.....

Dear DSM,
Please dont mind but you are still not trying to understand what we are trying to say as you have already made it us vs they
your questions ...
1.Does disagreement have to result in murders? - Absolutely not. This question itself is disappointing as even after so many posts from us you are assuming that we would support any such thing.
2. Does the fringe have to inflame passions further? - NO, but its definitely not like if you or me say no they wont do it, they will do it untill there are people following them.
3. Why does BJP leadership keep quite - though the PM is socially active on Twitter and media? Even a condemnation would have done.... but the fringe spoke for the BJP.... Thing is if 1 out of 10 ppl say anything negative you will focus on that only ignoring 9 others who say positively.
I am asking you - What rajnath singh said ?
what amit shah said ?
what bjp spokesperson sambit patra said ?
what local mp said ?
i can list many many more but whats the point as you are only focusing on few like sakshi maharaj ?

And i still hvnt got answer to my question .. this incident happened in up, kalburgi was killed in congress govn state n dabholkar too.. then why protest against Modi ?? maybe modi should take charge even of state police or maybe he is responsible even for what happened before he came to power ?

And if you are talking about intolerance how about these protesters.. did they approach the govn ? did they try to do anything constructive ? you only tell me now.. who is the intolerant one ?

And as the incident started after drinking why am i not hearing anything against drinking ? if religious intolerance was one of the cause drinking was too.. then why not raise voice against drinking ?

And actually i dont understand what this shouting intolerance, intolerance will actually help in. I dont hear anyone giving any constructive suggestion on what should be done. All this fear, fear and the selective secularism is only leading to more division but sadly our so called secular people dont realize it.

Nirav,

Would like to disagree.... It is wisdom to listen to your critics, rather than to friends who tell you how good you are.....

Moodys must be told to mind their business. the idiots have rated India 'Baa3' since 2004.

Yet India grows at a rapid pace. and with this big economy, still at 7 % under the modi govt. and we are getting record FDI and FII flows.

I rate the report as 'Baa3'.

What to listen to an agency who rates India at a constant 'baa3', the lowest investment grade since 2004 ?

does such a ratings agency even have any credibility ? a 2 trillion dollar economy rated at junk investment rating , i.e. 'Baa3' ?

Excellent article.

The American credit rating agency Moody's has advised India to mind the perceived, incipient problem of religious and cultural intolerance before it gets out of hand. Though it is clearly being influenced by the jaundiced eye views of a minuscule section of the Indian intelligentsia, it is exaggerating stray happenings as the orchestrated norm across the country.

The boot is on the other leg; it is these intellectuals who are being led by their collective noses. By whom? Well, no prizes for guessing.

Nothing my friend..Japan has rating of Aa3 which has 10 trillion $ debt. continue to go in depression ever few months and then come out of it and then again... it has no future...

The other guy saying to listen to critics well you have think western countries have any gud intentions for india..you are dreaming...the game plan to stop india from becoming a superpower just like china and that is why so forgien funded ngo are there in india to do the dirty work and it has been confirmed by our IB..So learn to differnte between enemy and critic

This maybe a fallout of the Maggi incident. The corporates have long memories. They would not have forgotten that today's BJP was a part of the Janata Party in 1977. And they surely remember what the Janata govt. did to the foreign companies. So, I guess these ratings have a 30-40 year timeframe in mind.

I would not go with Moody or S&P or some other rubbish. All these guys incl. US of A wants India to give religious tolerance... that is plain BS!

I heard first hand on a flight from Switzerland to Mumbai just few weeks after Tsunami struck... The group of church members were discussing how much land can be now bought at coastal TN across various villages through the local churches here. They were talking only numbers... a major investment game in the name of religion! The shelters etc. that were built are just plain eye-wash! Now these investments are at risk.. hence this tirade!

There is no good intentions from our critics... everything is to do with money. Only the unlettered would fall for such guile.

I agree with you all !!! many rating agencies are biased...

India becomes world's 7th most valued 'nation brand'; US on top as per the annual report on world's most valuable nation brands compiled by Brand Finance.

Something similar happened here in Surat after 2006 floods. The land mafia made huge purchases after the floods in the low lying zones and then later liquidated most of it around 2012-13.
