Re: Stocks To Keep A Close Eye On - Chapter II

Hi Chaitanya & Anant

Firstly, a big thank you for replying to my query:thanx:

As i have missed a lot am trying to catch up with all that has been happening on these 2 threads.:(

I am slowly going through all the posts starting from the very inception of these threads and have managed to run through 60 pages of them today itself (on the mother thread). Have a long way to go.

Would sincerely appreciate if you and Anant could lend a helping hand to me to cope up with all that has been happening on this thread.

I have downloaded a couple of afl's and am a bit confused about which to use and when.

With a little bit of handholding i should be able to get up and run.

For instance i have downloaded the following AFL's:
1 - SingleMA by Anant
2 - SG's MA Crossover Trading by Kenneth
3 - Modified_Single_MA by Anant
4 - Updater by Anant - AFL as well as the word document file.
Have also read through the Updater word documents and have understood its contents.

Would like to place my sincere thanks to Anant for taking the efforts on that word document.

I am a big fan of Karthikmarar and did not know till now that Anant was associated with him all these years until i read his self intro on this thread.

My queries are as follows:

a. Which one of the above should i be using for day to day analysis.
b. Should i be using it as a chart by plotting it on Amibroker or should i just be using the above afl's as a scanner/explorer?
c. I tried backtesting the above afl's based on the triggers posted on the blog and observed that the above afl's shot out many more scrips than what was posted as buy or sell for that particular date - so my question is any further filters to be used to reduce the number of scrips shortlisted?
d. The AFL by Kenneth has a couple of other columns when it was run in exploration mode - Any tips on how the same needs to be interpretted.

Sorry to bother you all with so many questions at one go but as written earlier am trying to catch up with you all (but would definitely put that additional effort of going through all the posts atleast once to satisfy myself).

Lastly, do we get precisely the same shortlisted candidates by using the above AFL's as per SG's daily postings?

Do we need to use any discretion while screening the scrips that the afl's throw to us?

What attracted me the most in the thread is that it gives me an opportunity of moving from a discretionary based form of trading to a rule based trading system/trading platform - this will help me to become more disciplined and consistent as - (I am a really bad trader:mad:)

Thats all for tonight.
Sorry for bombarding you guys with so many why's and how's
I do have some more questions which i intend to pose once i am able to grasp inputs as per your replies.

Thanks in advance
God Bless

Hey

Anant bhai's method is a 20 SMA... it is a simple method and is as follows...

BUY: when the intraday bar is 70% or more above the 20SMA
SELL: sell on the next day when the bars is completely below the 20 SMA....

The AFL for this is available on the first post of this thread:

Thanks

Re: Stocks To Keep A Close Eye On - Chapter II

Hi Chaitanya & Anant

Thanks for acknowledging receipt of my previous post.

While you get prepared to answer my queries have prepared another list of them same so as not to bother you all time and again in too many bits and pieces.

My other queries/observations pertaining to the prevailing trading strategy are:-

1. It is observed that the latest modified AFL - single MA by Anant considers only the Wilders for making the buy/sell decisions - any impacts of not using 20/50 strategy.
2. SG was mentioning something about the 9/2 parameter on the BB bands - is this too being considered for the triggers in the afl's or is that not relevant in this trading strategy.
3. Also, have seen Ken's AFL putting stress on the 5/6 MA crossovers in addition to the 20/50 infact it has a number of buy and sell signals - if not mistaken 4 in all of each?
4. Also, what about position sizing - i.e. how many positions to trade on - could see some numbers recommended in Ken's AFL but not present in Anant's.

As have jumped very late on this thread am confused on which strategy is SG's and what amongst those have been incorporated into the various AFL's.

PS: Am not doubting anything nor any AFL - just purely confused:confused: as i intend to strictly follow the system more as a ROBOT and would like to eliminate any personal interventions other than placing entry and exit orders based on the triggers generated by the system. Offcourse not to miss the trailing stop losses too.

The above afl's will make life easy for us all so will be fully dependent on them - just wanting to know which one is to be put to use?

A query pertaining to trading - How should we trade the signals received on eod basis the next day - for instance in case of a buy - should we place a buy trigger above the previous day's high and only enter when the price crosses the previous day's high?

What happens if the next day (T) of receiving the signal the price does not move above the high of the previous day - should we stalk the scrip on the T+1 day of the signal with the high of T as the basis for the buy - how many days should we continue doing so? till either the price crosses the high of the previous day or the SL whichever happens first? - not clear about this too.

Also, SL - is it based on the closing prices at eod or should we give the sl triggers at the begining of the day based on trigger basis?

I still have some more practical questions to pose to you all but will do so now in smaller chunks once i get a response to the above queries.

Once again sorry for all these bombardments. I seek your help desperately:sos:

Thanks for understanding

Hi all

Could some one tell me whether it is right time to buy RCOM.
Hi aknigin,

I feel it is not a good time to enter. It has pierced the lower BB on daily charts, and its in the downtrend since October-09. One can look for more good counter where there is good momentum in it. If it all if you like to still buy for investment purposes, one may consider entering at 125 to 130 levels.

To finish this post, i must say these are all my view on RCOM,and opinions may vary. Please verify it with the experts here.

Budget Impact ::::

Clarification needed from Experts ::confused:

1. Why DLF, HDIL etc. reality baron slip down so rapidly last hour ?
2. Fertilizer stocks didn't perform as expected.
3. Nifty loose most of its early gain last hour.

The last hour gave up some of the gains due to possible Profit booking...:thumb:

Hi all

Could some one tell me whether it is right time to buy RCOM.
I believe tata communication is a better stock with limited downside and huge upside. Also the aggressive business expansion might get better results the next quarter.
But on a whole look for something better maybe metals as the budget is directly beneficial for them.
Telecom until 3g auction happens or comes close no real dum in it.

Because when price moves too much up or down its due to intraday price action(intraday traders bidding selling) and these traders generally do not take the stock home hence the pullback(like if there were more sellers then shortcovering wud have taken it up at the end on another day).

And what a day... friday was !!! missed several big oppertunities(Was about to buy relcap in morning as a speculative bet but decided against it alas!!!)

Then booked too early in HDIL both sides up and down(3 rs each).Didn`t make as much as i shuda.
