If an option is expiring out of money, there is no need to buy it back, it will expire worthless....

For writing an out of the money option with the premiums you are suggesting, would require around 6k to 8k for intraday position and 15k to 17k for overnight....
Thanks. 1 more noob option writer question. Suppose I write a 5700 CE at 8.80 tomorrow (assmuing price remains same) and it ends worthless as market don't go anywhere, stay rangebound or even better go down, what'll be profits? I'm willing to keep option open overnight by paying required 17k if returns are lucrative. What I learnt is such out-of-money options are less risky at the end of expiry and time erosion benefits pay profits, but how much? :)

The premium you received i.e. 8.80 (or Rs 440 per lot - Brokerage and taxes) is the maximum profit if nifty closes below or at 5700 at expiry... Above 5708.80, you have to pay from your pocket... Even if market closes above 5700 at expiry, you have to square off the option or face auto square off where the tax charge will be huge compared to normal buying of options... Hope it helps...

The problem is because of ie 9... All the data is available on the backoffice pretty easily, today we are having few problems because of compatiblity....

We are fixing this issue, but if you can't use ie8 ... here is the fix,

If you are using google chrome...

Now it is very easy for you to view all your information in a single web browser. You can trade on www.nowonline.in and you can view your back office personal ledger information on Google Chrome.

To activate this feature in your web browser on Windows, please do the following:

1. Paste the following link in your Chrome browser window: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/hehijbfgiekmjfkfjpbkbammjbdenadd# or search for ie tab for chrome

2. Install the extension by clicking on 'Install'.

3. You can start viewing IE specific pages like your Back Office personal ledger or www.nowonline.in by clicking on the 'Internet Explorer' icon that appears on the right side of your address bar on Google Chrome.

4. You will have an additional address bar that will open...
Just type in the URL or click on the link and you'll be able to view and work on Chrome and access any Internet Explorer specific website.

5. You can add bookmarks for IE specific web pages and open them on any computer that has Google Chrome.

Do this, we have all reports available on the backoffice and it is pretty easy to use, doesn't work on ie9 though... Do the above and then go through all the menu's... Once that is done, do let us know if any reports that you would want to see that is not available on the backoffice...
I've been trading on www.nowonline.in (through Zerodha) directly in Google Chrome without using any IE tab extension as suggested by you. It runs smoothly in Google Chrome. In fact, nowonline.in is so fast in Chrome (as it is Chrome is the fastest browser) that I find it much better than Now.exe software.

However, your backoffice cannot be opened in Chrome since it requires XDK support that is required by your backoffice.

You are right about the first part, but wrong about the second. For an option seller on expiry, even if its ITM option he does not have to pay any tax.. tax is only for the buyers of the option at expiry.

Back Office IE9 issues could be sorted, if we click a small icon in address bar of IE9- compatability icon. U can easily view Back Office pages. Pls click the icon for every page u visit. I use IE9

Re: Zerodha. Queries re PArtnerships a/cs...

Dear Zerodha/Sachin,

My wife & I are planning to trade in futures & options in a partnership firm. We currently have a 3 in 1 joint a/c in ICICI bank with trading thru ICICIDIRECT. I feel their setup & charges are not suitable for F&O intraday trading. We would like to open a pure trading a/c(no demat) with you. Can the a/c be opened in the name of the partnership or does it have to be a joint a/c.

Initially we will be doing trades in a couple of lots of Nifty futures & later on move to options. Pls. confirm whether your charges, as given in the "Zerosha.xlsx" calculator, are still valid?

Regards

Sridhar V

Writing opitons, max profits is the premium you receive... Yes option writing gives you an edge on the probability of winning, but if proper risk management is not applied, in 1 month out of the 10 months, you can loose all the profits plus more....

Follow the process for enabling ie on chorme, should work...
