R K Global Issues!

The number of times you reconnect to the broadcast server is recorded in files such as /ODIN/DIET/2009November24BcastDll.log. That quote updates freeze far too often is well known, specially at critical points such as reversals or breakouts. My log shows that today I reconnected 20 times and yesterday 17 times. There may be duplicates where one reconnect more than once to get the quotes to restart. There may be omissions since I tend to take many breaks during trading hours.

RKG has a tendency to blame BSNL or the net service provider.

It is difficult to categorically state if the freezing has anything to do with graphs, since I typically have one graph open at any given time. But I doubt it does. Since Flock has freezing problems as well without using charts, that confirms.

On the subject of charts, some observations:

- They either use up too much memory or have a memory leak. Typically, around 1 pm, an error message comes up with "A required resource is". and the application freezes. Log out and restarting Odin is required to trade for the rest of the day. On a side note, after this error message, if I close the chart, quotes restart and I can continue trading.

- Whenever I open a chart, there is a message "Error in opening intraday url". This process is synchronous and the application freezes between opening the chart and this message. It takes a good 10 to 15 secs for the message to come up.

- That there is no intraday backfill has been noted. That there are no historical charts has also been noted, even though the menu options exist.

- Flock has mentioned that there are time alignment problems. There are price alignment problems as well, specially when viewing a small time range. Say, Nifty futures is at 5086. The plot may be above the 5090 horizontal grid line.

- Switching between line and bar charts causes the chart to start fresh/blank even though Odin has the data.

- The option to switch between line and bar charts does not appear till the market has started i.e. some quotes have come in.

- I think the volume plot is all wrong and represents only the volume for the plotted quote and not the intervening period from the last quote. There is no way that I am aware of to remove the volume panel.

- In case quotes freeze for some time, charts will show a sudden vertical spike in price (assuming price has moved). In the earlier version, there was an option to expand the time axis for the missing period.

- It is difficult to draw trend lines. The pencil icon tends to disappear if fresh quotes come in before the line is drawn and the chart repaints. It is easier to stop quote broadcasts, draw the line, restart broadcasts.

- Tried using the Fibonacci arcs. Could not delete them subsequently. They reappeared in odd positions the next couple of days.

- The indicators such as MA, Stochastics that were available in the previous version (prior to 9.1.0.5) are no more available.

etc. Why waste time describing chart shortcomings?

Hi lazytrader
what is the new version of ODIN Diet ? Have checked the kolkata support website http://support.ftkolkata.com/ , they are with 9.1.0.5
That is the old version as you can see whylately has mentioned below.

Because ODIN is the most widely used client by traders and complaining can only make it better. Besides, it has been getting better over the past few years. Whatever the problems, I think other brokers ODIN's perform a lot better that RKG's.

About the memory leak, I think this could be a problem with your computer because I haven't seen anyone else complaining about a memory leak or maybe only RKG's ODIN has this problem.

The best way to deal with brokers is to get them over here, to traderji so that all of us can push them for better service and problem resolution.

Brokers have a Brokers Association, where is ours?!

It's not really a problem. Unless someone tries to spoof you specifically. There is no problem.

Agreed ,this is not a problem at all.A shrewd businessman
attend to a minute problem also.If attitude of RKG remains
like this ,their business will be grabbed by somebody else.

I have been using RK Global for around 2 months. My experience has been good till now.

Opening the account: They don't have an office in Bangalore, but they have a representative in Bangalore who helps in opening the account. He came near my office and got the forms signed. He said that it would take 15 working days and I got the userID and password mailed on the 14th day. Also he as quite good at responding to the queries I had.

Money transfer: I have a ICICI account, but in their trading site only HDFC account can be added. So I had to add RK Global as the 3rd party payee in ICICI site. The transfer is not instantaneous. It took around 4-5 hours for the transfered amount to appear in the trading site.
I haven't yet tried transferring money back to my bank account.

Trading site: I use only the web version. There are two options, i.e lite and streaming. Before the login screen I get a certification error, but that it is not a big issue. The loading of the main trading screen is slow, but after that things can be done very fast and with ease. The order execution is very fast (I have never seen an order in inprogresss state). I use firefox and there are no issues.

Customer care: Their customer care guys sound unprofessional. But luckily I had to call them only once till now( I was trying to buy options without specifying the limit price. The customer care guy pointed out that market order is not allowed for derivatives)

Back office: Their back office site serves the purpose well. The details of the trades, different taxes, etc are clearly mentioned.

WAP site: I was surprised to know that they have a wap site. I was not aware of it till one of the previous poster mentioned about it. I was able to execute a trade without any issues in opera mini browser.

Hope this info helps

New version of ODIN is out with Angel and supposed to add better charting and some new charting features. Back fill for intraday and EOD.

ODIN is imporving and competition from other good platform means traders will benefit :)

My brokers web interface can also auto refresh the Net position and order book on new order placement or order execution, not having it in ODIN is bad.

Now is accessed over the web right? does it need java to provide these features?
LT,

ODIN does provide real time updates to all windows. Works well in the order processing dept. Charting is the only issue.

'NOW' works as a java appllet. Yes Java runtime is required.

Hi abliss,

Earlier I tried to open RKG's web version with Firefox ,but could not
succeed as my browser used to close automatically.
(It happens with some other sites also). Then I started
using Explorer and I made some progress. At place I asked
to load FLASH player and JRE.I loaded both and restarted.
Now problem is that I am not able to access RKG at all.
